Spectre (2015) Opening Credits With Radiohead's "Spectre"
Просмотров 299 тыс.7 лет назад
Leading up to the release of the twenty-fourth Bond film Spectre, rumors circulated about who would be recording the theme song for the film. Lots of names were tossed around, and many hoped that Radiohead would be chosen to create a theme, perhaps a revamped version of fan favorite "Big Boots". And though Sam Smith was ultimately chosen to perform the theme to "Spectre", James Bond and Radiohe...

This song alone would’ve elevated what the plot should’ve been

... No offense but the music drowns the singer. I think if this was sung by a female who can make do the same inflictions, same mood with a bit more power... We'll have something far more perfect.

I think everyone's being really dramatic in this comment section, I liked Writing's on the Wall, but I do admit this works way better as a Bond theme.

Wow it even looks like it was edited around the lyrics. Almost like this was originally going to be the opening theme and it was made with it in mind, but someone decided to switch it up at the last moment for whatever reason.

You couldn't have asked for a better Bond theme than Radiohead's Spectre. Everything about the song feels...off. Discordant. It's almost as if Radiohead isn't even trying. The drum's off-kilter rhythm, the jarring vocals. It's such a perfect representation of how Bond must be feeling. He's lost Vesper. M. Everything worth fighting and caring for. He's become no different than a specter who can never be seen or heard by anyone. Suddenly, he just drops the charismatic facade he's always had. He's indifferent to the lifestyle his spy work has brought upon him. All the women, all the hedonistic pleasures...it means nothing to him now. He just doesn't have the enthusiasm to keep doing this anymore. He is so desperate to bring everything to a close. To just stop. But alas, 007 has to keep going, because the mission he has in Spectre was given to him by M - the only other person he holds mutual respect for. This is just the least he can do. It is what makes the beginning and ending of the opening title so much more profound - Bond isn't focused on any of the women that surround him. He thinks of all that has happened. All the sacrifices he's made. He stares ahead, knowing he has another job to do, uncaring of everything around him. One final mission, just for M. And then you watch the movie and it's fucking lame. So it makes sense that Sam Smith's version made it over Radiohead's. A lame song for a lame movie.

I’ve been a Bond fan since I was ten years old and cannot understand why everyone thinks this song should have been chosen for the main theme. I can barely make out the lyrics and the instrumental just seems weirdly off…. It just sounds like something a group of high schoolers who wanted to form a rock band came up with in a basement while jamming. But hey, they’re rich and I’m not. So what do I know?

Radiohead had written and recorded a different song to this that was going to be used in Spectre , they had unfortunately released the track on a live album and therefore couldn’t be used as the bond song which must be released originally as its own single. They then wrote and recorded Spectre for Spectre , but by then it was too late as they had chosen to go with a different song writer and composer w Sam Smith , and the production of the title sequence was too far in production to restart the process. Even though MGM had much preferred this. Very very unfortunate.

Some will fight that this video is irrelevant, and others will say it's immaculate. But the only thing that gives me solace is thinking of the one potential director that wanted to take on 007: Christopher Nolan. The fact he's a huge fan of both Radiohead and James Bond makes it that if he was the one directing Spectre, he would've used theme. We can only dream.

Unpopular opinion: I can see why this wasn’t picked. The 007 franchise wants songs that hit big in the charts, and this could never be that song. It just ain’t commercial enough.

I would have loved this song for the movie but radiohead gave them first another song that they had already sang live so they couldnt use it thats why they later picked writing on the wall, and just a little bit to late radiohead gave them this song but it was to late they had already made this intro with writings on the wall but yeah this would have been amazing but sam did a good job with the little time and info he had.

Why do people keep running with the narrative that it was simply too dark? Craig, Mendes stated themselves the original song couldn’t be used as it had already been played on a live album and that wasn’t the brief. It needs to be an original song as for example it’s not eligible for academy awards. People also want to listen to a song knowing that it’s been written precisely for the movie, that’s a huge part of Bond so they pursued Sam Smith and by the time that had happened, Thom came back and said they had written another song which was too late. Mendes stated himself it was beautiful and melancholy, there’s a lot more to it then it simply being too dark.

This song was not on any live album. It was written specifically for Bond. Notice how he sings “specter” several times
